Tickle

Russ is the UK Editor for Tickle Inc (part of the Monster Group) and his role is to inject humour through his editing and by writing new tests for the UK site. Tickle’s main focus is scientifically verified psychology tests (e.g. IQ test, Ink blot test) or fun tests that entertain while providing some surprisingly accurate information about the user’s personality. There are also social networking and matchmaking sections.

“Russ has been involved with Tickle UK since the beginning and has invigorated the site with his humorous twist on everyday life.

Russ also supplies us with creative new ideas to continually improve the Tickle experience, ensuring that we maintain our position as the world’s leading self-discovery site." Boris Pfeiffer, General Manager, Tickle Europe.

The UK site was launched in September 2004 and together with the US site has over 20 million members and an Alexa rank of 392.

Russ has edited a number of the original American tests into “British English” and has written over 50 new fun tests that appeal specifically to a British audience. These include:

Good Health magazine

Russ was a regular contributor to Good Health magazine where he specialised in explaining complex health topics in a way that related to the reader’s lives.

“We had some great feedback on Health & the City from readers… We all loved it.” Jane MacArthur – Editor, Good Health magazine.

He also grabbed the reader's attention with a monthly humorous column Health and the City that followed the progress of three normal women who found that following a simple health pact is not easy with our modern lifestyles.

Each column was a self-contained article and covered a different health topic each week. However, there were also a number of on-going intriguing plotlines.

Russ has also had a number of articles published in Eve and Dogs Today, and has contributed to articles in New Woman and Psychologies magazines as well as a wide range of other publications. His articles have so far been published in 10 different countries.

Daily corporate news service for Pfizer

Russ started his career by spending a year freelancing as part of a two person team publishing a daily news service magazine for the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. This magazine is published on the company's intranet in a number of versions to cover their sites around the world.

Smile while you work

As a two person team, he helped to establish the brand within a year for the Pfizer European sites and of course, managed to smuggle in a healthy dose of humour. The publication became one of the first sources of reference in this massive multi-national company.

The work involved all aspects of publication from interviewing people and taking digital photographs to subbing incoming articles; arranging for translations into different languages; processing photographs and posting the articles on the Intranet. It also included managing conflict over publication dates for specific articles and running the publication single-handedly when his colleague was away.

Whilst many of the articles were strictly business based Russ also wrote people profiles, film reviews and a 'Friday Funny' column including weekly summaries of news from the industry. The people profiles included staff from all levels and visiting celebrities such as Trevor Baylis (inventor of the clockwork radio) and Helen Storey (fashion designer and artist).
